What is the environment? The environment is everything around us. All our surroundings including the air, soil, water, plants and animals make up the environment. 
 
Plants and animals need a healthy environment to live in; it’s called an ecosystem. What is an ecosystem?  An ecosystem is  an area that includes all of the living things such as plants, animals and organisms, like bugs and insects in a special area. 
 
Each species interacts with each other, and also with their non-living environments such as the weather, the earth, the sun, soil, climate and atmosphere. In an ecosystem, each organism has its own niche or role to play in the environment.
 
It is very, very important to keep the environment healthy and clean. When the environment becomes dirty and polluted with bad chemicals and poisons, then it becomes dangerous for humans and all other species.
